IAESTE celebrates 60 years
of student exchanges
2008 marks the 60th anniversary of the IAESTE programme. Since its foundation at Imperial College in 1948 IAESTE has exchanged in excess of 320,000 students. From an association of just 10 member countries IAESTE has grown to be represented in 85 nations, and is still growing.
To mark the 60th anniversary year a huge celebration was held during the Annual Conference in Jordan in January. Delegations performed, sang, danced and represented their cultures in a parade of colour following the sequence by with countries joined the association. The evening culminated in a firework display over the Dead Sea and a huge birthday cake.
IAESTE UK celebrated the 60th anniversary at receptions in Belfast, Edinburgh and London in the summer months. These were attended by UK employers and their international trainees who came to the UK from 60 countries to take up work placements across the UK.
